Music ranting and random thoughts.

Yeah, yeah, I'm doing another one of these again.  Whoop-dee-doo what a shock lol.  But this time around, I decided to do another entry into the whole Random thoughts thing.  Only this time around, it's about nothing but music.  Namely everything that's wrong with it these days.  If I somehow offend anyone...good.

- I don't care how hot she may or may not be.  Beyonce has got to be one of the most annoying people on the entire planet.  Every picture I see of her and she's smiling, it's that kind of knowing smile that says, "Yeah, that's right, I'm a bitch."  Not to mention that her music is by far some of the worst I have heard in my lifetime.  And then, "If I Were a Boy" hit the airwaves.  The first thousand times I heard it, I thought to myself, "Hey...she's actually attempting to write a decent song."  After that, I realized just how damned WHINY she sounds throughout the song.  No thanks.  Oh, and Beyonce, Destiny's Child sucked too, by the way.

 - The banjo has to be the absolute least intelligent sounding musical instrument of all time.  Where's "Deliverance" when you need it?

 - When Colbie Callait's first album Coco came out in 2007, I got the chance to hear about half the album.  What did I hear EVERY SINGLE SONG?  The SAME lazy vocal stylings, the SAME lazy drum beat, and some of the worst lyrics of all time.  I mean seriously, if the best thing you can come up with for a song idea is how your toes tingle, it's time to retire.

 - Justin Bieber....seems that he's EXTREMELY popular among the prepubescent female community.  Coincidentally, he's also just as popular among the adult homosexual male community.  So if you've got Bieber Fever, chances are you're either 12 or queer.  Take your pick.

 - I honestly do not understand the appeal of Lady Gaga.  She sounds like a Down's Patient throughout most of her songs, and she dresses in a way that people find "unique" or "eccentric."  No, she just dresses fucking weird.  Oh, and Gaga, Madonna called.  She wants her gimmick back.

 - I have pretty much come to the decision that Brett Dennen is completely and totally talentless.  Not to mention that he's an ugly sumbitch to boot.  Let's examine his music, shall we?  Worst singing voice I have ever had the displeasure of hearing on the radio at work millions of times, but the dude can't write a decent song, either.  Seriously, if most of your songs sound like they belong in the background of a vacation resort commercial, chances are that means you're not very good at all.

 - I still maintain, to this day, that no one, AND I MEAN NO ONE under the age of 18 should ever be allowed in a recording studio.  Willow Smith, Rebecca Black, and the aforementioned Justin Beiber, I'm talking to you.

  - When someone tells me that "I listen to any music that has a really good beat," chances are it usually means "I don't know SHIT about true music."

 - I just found out that Disturbed are taking a couple years break, as lead singer David Draimen stated that the msuic industry is on a decline.  Think about this for a second, BROTHERS!  Most bands break up because there's a lot of infighting.  Or because one of them died.  Or even because one of them wanted to become a solo artist.  But Disturbed are breaking up, because, in their own words, the current music industry SUCKS!  That's when you know we have a problem.

 - Let's face facts...I hate N*Sync.  I always have.  I always will.  Same goes for Justin Timberlake's solo work.  But I have to call a spade a spade.  I'm not a fan of his music by any means, but godDAMN he's a funny guy.  No wonder he's been doing the acting thing a lot more lately.

 - I REALLY don't understand the appeal of reggaeton.  And no, it's got nothing to do with its racial background.  Every song, EVERY DAMN SONG, has the same exact beat to it.  There's no originality behind that.  Which means there's not one bit of talent behind it.  And I'm sorry, but I only listen to talented musicians.

 - Yes, it's a tragedy if anyone in this world dies for any reason, I truly mean that.  But as a musician, Amy Winehouse just wasn't that good.  She had a horrible singing voice...matter of fact, she really did sound strung out most of the time.  Not to mention that the music she was peddling went out of style over 50 years ago.  AND inspired some of the worst bands in history as a result, such as the Noisettes and Mozella.

I think that this is about good for right now.  As always, comments are always welcome.  Thanks a lot.

A Change is Afoot.....

Holy leave of absence, Batman!  Guess who's back?

I know that I haven't been doing this blogging thing much lately, but for good reason.  Turns out I've been pretty busy over the past couple of months.  For starters, I've decided to make that big move, and move in with my girlfriend Heather.  This is a pretty big thing for me, considering that I've never moved in with anyone I've dated before.  Now, true, I haven't really dated a lot, but that's besides the point.  But Heather has been such a breath of fresh air for me.  She's also had a positive effect on my life.  So it's time.  It's been about four months since we met, but it feel like we've been together about a year.  I dunno, brothers, this just feels like this...this is it.  This is the "it" that I have been waiting for my entire life.  Hell, this is the "it" that should have happened back in 2001!  Needless to say, I feel really good about the whole thing.  About once a month, give or take, I've been heading to just about every live wrestling event that I can think of.  Whether it's semi-regular trips to the Impact Zone for TNA Wrestling, or this Saturday's trip to see Qwest Wrestling for the first time, I've done everything I can to have the best time possible.  And speaking of Saturday, this will be no different.  Yes, it's a local promotion doing its thing, and I am going to have no fucking clue who any of these guys are, but hey, wrestling is wrestling.  Rest assured I am going to be at ringside milking it for all it's worth.  As far as other changes go, I made the much-needed decision to transfer store locations.  This has quite a bit to do with my recent move with Heather.  At the same time, I felt that it was time for me to leave.  I haven't quit the company, I would never do that.  But as far as a lot of things that have been going on lately at my previous locations, I just couldn't handle it anymore.  I met a lot of great people during my time there, and I am thankful for every one of them.  I'm going to miss them all dearly.  Thanks for the memories, every one of you.  I will not soon forget any of you.

Finally, I review another CD on my blog.  And it's a pretty big release for me.  I've been a fan of Queensryche since I was about 10 years old, when the Empire album came out.  Since then, they've stuck it out over the years, releasing a sequel to one of the greatest concept albums in rock history (Operation: Mindcrime), to producing a covers album a couple of years later.  This year, they release Dedicated to Chaos, a drastic departure from their heavy metal roots.  This most recent release doesn't necessarily strip away the metal completely, but it's a lot lighter than I am used to from the band.  The songwriting is still decent, but it almost doesn't even sound like Queensryche to begin with.  If not for vocalist Geoff Tate singing on the album, you would have no idea that it was Queensryche.  That's not necessarily a bad thing, just something different that they are trying.  And I sure have to give them credit for that.  This album features Parker Lundgren's first outing as part of the band's official lineup.  He's no Chris DeGarmo, but he fits in quite well here.  The CD's lead single, and opening track "Get Started" is a serviceable way to start the album.  Even though it's pretty light hearted, it still rocks.  Other personal favorites from mine would have to be "Hot Spot Junkie," "Drive," "At the Edge," and the album's closing track, "Big Noize," which, at about six and a half minutes, harkens band to the progressive rock roots of their better years.  This is not the best Queensryche album you will ever hear.  It's also not their worst album (that would be 1997's Hear in the Now Frontier)  Not by a long shot.  But it certainly doesn't suck.  I guess that's pretty much all I can really say about the album.  I still say it's worth a couple of listens, though.

A slight thumbs up.  Decent enough.
